Your YES vote will improve safety and security, address critical infrastructure needs, and upgrade classrooms for ALL students in EVERY building.

Safety and security upgrades at entry points, fire suppression systems, added space to remove hazards within schools and other critical upgrades.
Improvements to outdated, inflexible classrooms in all buildings and science labs in the middle schools.
Repair and renovation of deteriorated roofs and brick work.
Replacement of outdated, inefficient plumbing, electrical, mechanical and HVAC systems.
Renovation of Springman Middle School to improve safety and security, upgrade science labs, right-size common spaces, and provide an equitable middle school experience across the District.
Added instructional space for special education programming and full-day kindergarten. (District 34 will join the other D225 feeder schools, and almost 80% of school districts statewide, to offer full-day kindergarten.)
Added instructional space to eliminate the use of hallways for individual and small-group instruction, storage and certain physical education programming.
Address Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) needs in each school.

Passage of District 34’s bond measure provides many important benefits for both our students and taxpayers.

Improving the safety and security of students, teachers and staff.
Enhancing accessibility for students, staff, parents and other visitors to the schools with disabilities.
Extending the useful life of existing school facilities and reducing costly emergency repairs.
Improving energy efficiency, helping to save taxpayer dollars.
Creating flexible learning spaces that boost the skills D34 students need in high school and beyond--technology, collaboration, and hands-on project based learning.
Added instructional space for special education programming and full-day kindergarten. (District 34 will join the other D225 feeder schools, and almost 80% of school districts statewide, to offer full-day kindergarten.)
Protecting property values district-wide.

It’s the right time.

  • It’s been more than 30 years since District 34 voters approved funding for district-wide improvements to all schools, and 20 years since voters approved the bond measure to construct Attea Middle School.
  • Many District 34 schools are more than 50 years old and in need of critical upgrades and repairs.
  • Outstanding debt will be paid off soon, helping to significantly reduce the net tax impact.
  • Borrowing costs are near record lows.
  • Construction costs are rapidly increasing—the longer we wait, the more it will cost.

District 34 has listened to local taxpayers and reduced the scope of work.

  • The original bond proposal has been downsized by $20 million.
  • Additional District savings will be invested in the project to reduce borrowing and taxes.
  • Administration building and warehouse relocation have been eliminated so virtually all funds are being spent on upgrades that directly benefit students.
  • As a result of these changes the tax impact for homeowners has decreased. For example, a person with a tax bill of $10,000 will see an increase of approximately $7.50 a week.

Strong oversight will be in place.

  • All spending from the bond issue will be publicly disclosed.
  • Ongoing project updates will be provided online and via community outreach meetings.

It’s a community-driven proposal that meets the needs of students and local taxpayers.

More than two years of planning went into District 34’s proposal, including:

  • Comprehensive facility and space studies, and analysis of multiple financing options.
  • Extensive community engagement, including public opinion research and multiple community outreach meetings.
  • Guidance from a 38-member Citizen Task Force and the Citizen Finance Advisory Committee (CFAC). .
